Nyquist Wins 142nd Running of Kentucky Derby
Stormy skies cleared by post time for the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby on late Saturday.
WEB Nyquist won the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby on late Saturday afternoon. The colt, ridden by Mario Guitierrez, took the lead in the final stretch and held on to win by a length and a half.
Nyquist covered the 1 1/4-mile distance in 2:01.31. The victory was his sixth in seven career starts. He is now the favorite for the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown, which will be run on May 21.
Exaggerator finished second, followed by Gun Runner. The race was run in front of a crowd of more than 150,000 people at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
